We could never quite figure out during the mid-90's 'bachelor pad' revival why keywords such as 'zany' and 'bizarre' were primarily bantied about by the kitsch hounds, because most of that music was simply just 'boring'. Martin Denny's music, however, usually shone above the pack - soothing air, great vibraphones, unexpected Oriental percussion, and 'bird calls' we were both surprised to discover later in life weren't genuine avians but Denny's backing musicians.
We pulled out a copy of Eric's Exotica remaster in an attempt to study a similar vibe for our own version of 'Siamese Cat Song' for Century, and Ryan to this day still can't help grabbing any MD vinyl when he sees it. R.I.P., M.D.
