Been a while since any of us posted, so I thought I'd throw a decent amount of rambling up here, though I'll try to keep things a bit more focused than the completely stream-of-consciousness craziness I've read
recently from the likes of Karl Wallinger & William Corgan, who (to the best of my knowledge) has yet to acknowledge his newly acquired $7m house on his blog. He did reveal that Mick Foley's his all-time fave rassler, however.
Writing this while stuck on a Chicago-bound flight back from Sacramento, where the in-flight movie is Radio, and feels like it's had about 7 different endings so far and might quite possibly be longer than I, Clavdivs. Was that Debra Winger? The gal next to me has managed to slip into a coma throughout, while her husband sitting at the window is more bored than a 4-year old at an Avon convention. I'd gladly proffer my new MOJO or Q his way, but I think it'd be an automatic blank stare for this guy and his New Line Broncos cap.
Back in California, I was luckily able to steal away for a day to get to Frisco, spend an unhealthy amount of time at Amoeba & KidRobot, and have a great Indian dinner with friend Steve, who played bass & clarinet with us way back in the day. Earlier, my friend Phatty, his friend Miranda & I stopped in a suspicious music store in Placerville where they were way too reverent about a crummy, Korean-made gypsy guitar. That, despite earlier seeing what might've been the most beautiful scenery north of richey-ville El Dorado Hills, helped to solidify why I'm not ready to flee Chicago yet. Sacramento was completely disappointing, although Phatty & Miranda made another trip in later & found some decent hipster areas, for better or for worse. Eh, you figure it's good enough for Darla ....
Couple months ago, Eric & I hit an area record convention, which we used to do a lot more frequently in the COS days, until that particular CD show was laid to rest (the organizer apparently got ill). *sigh* I miss those imports and 'imports', too. The record show absorbed a couple of the choice vendors, but disappointingly the show is mainly vinyl-dominated, attended by a few of THE most putrid smelling, vomit-inducing single white males in the Midwest. Not sure how someone can get so far up a rabbit hole. Well, at least now they have their rare stereo-reprocessed Taiwanese copy of 'G.I. Blues'.
Good tunes lately:
* Blue - The Thorns
* Things - Fannypack
* Amsterdam - Guster
* Public Service Announcement - Jay-Z (Dangermouse mix)
* Make a Move On Me - Olivia Newton-John
* 69r - Helios
* Oh, Those Sweet Bananas - Hackamore Brick
* Lost Time - Donovan
Grow up, but don't grow lame.
Batteries running on empty, Jackson. Gotta fly - pun not intended or particularly wanted, either.
best in 2004,
