I've been trawling the LMP vaults recently, and have been amazed at the sheer volume of projects we've abandoned along the way. Not just theoretical ideas, either … there are at least five semi-finished albums in there, in addition to hours and hours of songs that never found a home.

Much of it is quite good, too. I've never enjoyed revisiting old 'n' aborted material (or old 'n' released material, for that matter), but so much time has passed since a lot of these recordings that it's like hearing someone else's music. Many songs (and even full-on albums) that I'd totally forgotten about.

We'll polish the better stuff up and put it out through Polyholiday Homemade, I think. It's probably the case that Ryan and I get bored too quickly, losing interest in stuff even though it's totally worthwhile. I must admit, some of the material we've let languish is a good deal better than most current bands' stuff, song-wise at least.

Some of the interesting finds:

• A totally different version of 'Aunt Canada' recorded before the one we ended up releasing. In all honesty, it's probably a better record, but we were very unsatisfied with it then, hence the re-recording.
• 'What We've Been Doing Since We Broke Up the Beatles' – the follow-up to 'Aunt Canada', recorded from '97-98 or so. About 50 total songs from this era have never seen the light of day!
• Some weird cover versions, including 'We're All Alone' by Boz Scaggs and 'Mandy' by Manilow. Not sure what we were going for on those.
• Demos for a conceptual double-album about child actors. Maybe we'll go ahead and actually produce the real thing. The world needs LMP's 'The Wall', right?
• Early tracks for a Xyylivia solo album … country!
