Charlie's Angels (2000)
Directed by McG
Written by Ryan Rowe, John August, & Ed Solomon

As self-referential and ironic as Josie & the Pussycats but nowhere near as self-loathing, Charlie's Angels succeeds by throwing in something for everyone and making damn sure you leave entertained to the fullest.

What ought to have been a predictable cash-in piece of shit turns out to be a flashy and funny thrillfest bolstered by plenty of explosions, T&A, and enough costume changes to keep the drag crowd happy for decades.

Oof, did I just say "flashy and funny thrillfest"? Fuck.

At any rate, Bill Murray steals the show as Bosley, Cameron Diaz is appealing as hell, Owen Wilson and Matt LeBlanc are great in a totally emasculated sort of way, and Sam Rockwell makes for a bold an unique villain. Crispin Glover turns a fat paycheck into a piece of art, and the creators have the good sense to bring back John Forsythe as the voice of Charlie!

Drew Barrymore is the weak link, given way too much screen time, and her then-beau Tom Green puts in a tediously unfunny cameo. Lucy Liu is just there, though she looks damn fine in leather. Kelly Lynch, as another villain, is looking mighty old.

A popcorn movie through and through, but amazingly good fun. This is one of those rare films where I didn't want to beat my underage girlfriend for picking it out.
