The Happening (2008)
Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan

I suppose by now it's simply to be expected that an M. Night Shyamalan movie will be heavy-handed, self-satisfied, overly serious, and unfortunately reliant on a twist you can predict straight away during the opening credits. So does The Happening offer anything new?

Only a retarded "green" message, which makes it perhaps even less likable than Shyamalan's especially terrible The Lady in the Water, and maybe just more overall preposterousness. Mark Wahlberg does his best, but he's in his Planet of the Apes mode here rather than his Boogie Nights mode. As for Zooey Deschanel … will someone please explain the appeal? I mean, I'm all for Plain Janes, Hollywood, but at least find one with a pulse!
