Ain't bad, but there's not much going on with Athlete's Vehicles & Animals, which sounds like some GAP corporate executive's idea of great shopping music. Highly melodic pop a la The Eels, but nothing distinctive about it. The catchiest song, "El Salvador," rips off Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" for the verse and Beck's "Loser" for the chorus … that's either unbelievably sarcastic or just clueless. People would do better to buy an old Al Stewart record. This just makes me feel like I'm trying on pants. Review by |
