Franz Ferdinand
Live at Glastonbury, Engand 25 June 2004
(Archduke 002)

Franz Ferdinand and/or Epic Records surely must be behind the proliferation of live recordings hitting the Internet, 'cause the timing couldn't be better. A year from now, few will care to listen to more than one live disc retreading the songs on the studio album, but at the moment, it seems crucial to grab whatever you can find.

The Franzes' appearance at the Glastonbury festival is nice because it has a real sense of goofy fun, as can only come about in sweaty summer sunlight with thousands of fans getting stupid along with the band. The stage chatter is effusive almost to the point of giddiness, and the performances are refreshingly relaxed. They had nothing to prove, so the sound is three darlings-of-the-moment delivering exactly what is needed exactly when it is needed, like someone showing up with a bottle of water right when you're on the verge of passing out.
