Yuppster
Simon
(8bitpeoples 016)

God bless the 8bitpeoples. I sure love a world where the notion of Eddie Van Halen wielding his crosscut Stratocaster across a bombastic exploding stage pales to the image of a kid with a Gameboy making music in his parents' rec room … on winter break.

Yuppster is, like, the Gilberto Gil, or perhaps the Glen Campbell, of this world. Or how about the Quincy Jones? Er, the Wes Montgomery? The Jeff Buckley?

Obviously, comparison is not in order. What Yuppster is, is cool, whatever Yuppster is. His sound might be capsulized as Aphex Twin Babies, but that's overly prejudicial. Toward Yuppster, Aphex Twin, or babies, I'm not sure which.

The Simon EP has five very good, very short tracks: one for each color of the game, plus one of sounds created on the game. Is it groundbreaking? Revolutionary? Clever beyond words?

Who cares. I love it, that's all that matters.
