Original Soundtrack A two-LP soundtrack to what is apparently a disco vampire movie. After hearing the music, I'd love to see the film. I can almost formulate the story … let's see, disco vampire woman stalks the local disco. I bet I'm close enough. The songs are pretty good, not nearly as bland as I expected them to be. Irene Cara's on backing vocals. Gloria Gaynor offers "Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away" followed by Vicki Sue Robinson's "Nighttime Fantasy." Two songs by the Heaven'N'Hell Orchestra & Chorus (more disco), and two by Moment of Truth (imagine Tavares and the Village People collaborating. Neither fireworks nor duds). Jay Siegel weighs in with the "Grease"-like "Why Do Lovers Come Together" (it's the Paul Jabara Conundrum: you gotta love the token white guy on disco soundtracks. Is someone sitting at a desk shaking his head saying "NO, no, we need to water it down a bit. Jay, what's that song you wrote? Jay, stop filing for a minute, I'm talking to you!"), and the album closes with Chopin's "Nocturna" (get it?). Life must have been pretty great in 1977. So much decadence to be had and so much innocent fun to be wasted. "Wanna go see that disco vampire movie?" "Which one?" Review by La Fée |
