 Rock Star: INXS (CBS) 2005
The stakes never seemed all that high with Rock Star: INXS, another American Idol mimeograph in which the prize was to front a band whose lead singer hung himself. Though the panel of judges (including an increasingly undignified and feather-boa'd Dave Navarro) did their best to provide constructive criticism (though their approach to criticism makes Paula Abdul's seem absolutely scathing by contrast), the contestants, to the very end, were even more cheesy and desperate than the band itself, as well as the show itself.
So, good job, whomever won the contest: you just signed on to sing with a band that will take you to the dizzying heights of middling rock non-stardom; that is to say, headlining the lamest club in every major city, mostly on weeknights, for a fan-base hopelessly stuck in 1987, playing songs you didn't write, and not doing them all that well, ad infinitum.
