The Replacement Killers (1998)
Directed by Antoine Fuqua
Written by Ken Sanzel

*Yawn.* A very underwhelming American debut for Chow Yun-Fat, who's supposedly the Asian Harrison Ford. Basically all he does is spin and fire two guns at once while running. Boy, no one's ever done that before.

Director Antoine Fuqua is a John Woo/Michael Bay/Sergio Leone wanna-be, in the worst possible sense. Obviously a former video director, proving once again that slick visuals are as useless as Gary Coleman's organ donation card. Mira Sorvino should stick to comedy, since she's laughable as an action hero. Every time she screams "Hya!" she sounds more and more like Miss Piggy, but with less dramatic impact.

Plot is pointless, as expected. Music is your usual mixture of techno tracks with a repetitive Ennio Morricone-inspired Asian-themed score.

If you're in the mood for Hong Kong-style action, rent anything starring Jackie Chan. Even his silliest nonsense (Operation Condor, for example, or even The Tuxedo) is far superior to this festering stinkpit.
