Blake's Lotaburger When it came time for National Geographic to break their silence and finally name the "World's Best Green Chile Cheeseburger," who came out on top? Why, none other than
Blake's Lotaburger?! Now, there's nothing wrong with Blake's Lotaburger, but this seems like extremely lazy anthropology for National Geographic, and furthermore, why were they even reviewing cheeseburgers in the first place? It's not like I'm sitting here reviewing African children. Not on this site, at least! 😜
Blake's was founded in Albuquerque, and its appearance early on in "Breaking Bad" lent some credibility to the setting, since, after all, the characters couldn't always eat at Los Pollos Hermanos without the show becoming too much like "Happy Days" (which I always felt it was too similar to anyway).
They're one of those regional fast food chains that, for me, at least, always merit a visit whenever I'm passing through, not because the food is amazing, but because I can't get it back home. Some localized chains, like Whataburger for example, don't quite hit this "must-do" mark for me, but Lotaburger does, if not quite to the standard of, say, In-N-Out.
I got a Bacon Green Chile Lotaburger combo with seasoned fries—$9.20. This was toward the end of my stay in Santa Fe, after I'd eaten a ton of stellar green chile-focused food including the insanely good burger at Santa Fe Bite, which even burger super-expert George Motz lists among his all-time favorites. Oh shit, everyone hide! I just mentioned George Motz, so it's only a matter of time before he suddenly appears and wants everyone to look at his slides. He's like Beetlejuice, that guy! Beetlejuice with a slide projector! 😝 And almost 98% blockage in each artery! 😂 As I was saying, getting Blake's after Santa Fe Bite set it up to be a bit of a letdown; it's a good burger, but it's a fast-food burger. So while I very much enjoyed it, it was sort of a fizzle of a last gasp to my weeklong Santa Fe Stomachfuck. I'm glad, at least, I didn't bother with Robert Blake's shameless knockoff restaurant, Blake's Lotamurder.
