the new AMG & the new LMP

LMP says:

Music nerds took note today as AMG (allmusic.com) launched their revamped site just a few hours ago. Even though the site's data isn't truly all-encompassing (see: Lenny Dee's patchy discography listing - admittedly a daunting task), the review slant is sometimes irksome (1.5 stars for Paint America Love?!!??!), and errant data (apparently B.O.B.B.Y IV did more work on Alda than Eric), we both use the site for reference a whole heckuva lot - probably on a daily basis. A quick perusal revealed:

Pros:
* streamed audio snippets [sweet]
* cleaner layout (2004-esque tabs abound)
* the flash selection widget at the top is fun
* can still link directly to entries

Cons:
* free registration required (read: user data mining)
* site still regularly times out
* no entry for Susan Rose's 'Mellow Midnight'.

Oof, rereading this bla overview sounds more 'Comic Book Guy blog' than was ever intended. Short answer is that while the AMG doesn't fill in ALL the cracks, it's still pretty massive 'n helpful, and free to boot.

In band-related news, inspired by frequent visits to excellent music blogs ala largeheartedboy, the LMP pages are being revamped to include an audio page, which has had us digging in the archives for goodies & rarities, including Lorenzo Music-era stuff for those of you who like that sorta thing. Soon, soon.
