Drumline (2002)
Directed by Charles Stone III
Written by Shawn Schepps and Tina Gordon Chism

Frequently exciting, relentlessly upbeat movie about believing in yourself and becoming the best marching band drummer you can be. It's like Bring It On and Rudy, but with more black folks.

It's mostly very good, and ought to have been excellent feel-good fun, but it sort of falls apart under the weight of too many unnecessary character subplots, too many repetitious scenes, and a climax that doesn't pay off the way it needs to.

Mainly, there's no need for a movie about a college marching band to be more than like 80 minutes long, and this one is closer to two hours. I mean, come on, if you're going to hoodwink me into watching something for two hours, at least blow some shit up.
