Mexican Corner
If you'd taken me to this place, pointed at it, and told me that's where I'd find the best tacos in Tulsa, I'd have done three things in short order: audibly scoffed, spat on the ground, and shat my pants. I know that last one doesn't actually do much in the way of insulting you, but I like the warm, comforting sensation.
Mexican Corner is your garden-variety bodega, but with a small kitchen-prep area where they turn out super excellent Mexican classics—tacos, burritos, tortas, what have you—and a small dining area. For a place that, frankly, looks like a dump (¡Lo siento, Tienda Mexicana!), the food is fresh, authentic, and very, very tasty. Decent Mexican and/or Tex-Mex is pretty easy to find in Tulsa, but this place is a true gem, even for a taco snob weaned on L.A.'s finest. (Full disclosure: I dated social media darlings "The Taco & Tit-Tay Twins," who are famous both for their love of tacos and their Good Motorboatin'-awarded tit-tays.)
You can't go wrong here, but all I ever get is the tacos—al pastor especially. Truly on par with any you've had in your fancy cityfolkin' taco joints, and cheap as fuck to boot. I typically get 'em with beans and rice, which are way, way above par here.
It's the kind of place where, if you haven't been in a little while, a nagging voice starts to creep in, sayin' "¡Más tacos AHORA, pendejo supremo!" I know, my inner voice is a little mean to me. But I usually deserve it. 😭
